Not sure what's worth bringing in when you consign? While every consignment shop is a little different, some categories consistently sell faster and for better prices than others. Here's what tends to do well at a consignment boutique like The White Willow — and what to leave at home.
Recognizable and Quality Brands
Items from well-known or well-made brands sell faster and hold value better than fast fashion. Shoppers browsing consignment are often specifically looking for a designer or quality find at a lower price, so brand recognition matters a lot here.
Current Season, Current Styles
Timing matters. Bring in what's in season now or coming up soon — shorts and tanks in spring, sweaters and boots in fall. Also consider what's currently trending: silhouettes, colors, and prints that are popular right now sell much faster than dated styles, even if the item is in great condition.
Like-New Condition
Clean, freshly laundered, no missing buttons, no stains, no pilling. Items in excellent condition sell faster and consign for more. If something has visible wear, it's usually better suited for donation than consignment.
Shoes and Accessories
Gently worn shoes, bags, and jewelry from recognizable brands are often easier sells than clothing, since sizing and fit matter less to buyers making a purchase decision. Quality leather goods in particular tend to consign well.
What Doesn't Sell as Well
Heavily worn basics, outdated trends, items with strong odors (smoke, pets, perfume), and anything damaged or stained typically won't be accepted. Fast fashion with visible wear also tends to sit — buyers browsing consignment expect better quality than what they'd find brand-new at a discount retailer.
